Recently i have experienced a problem with the key fob door button and the master lock switches not locking or unlocking the driver s door. So the key just goes in and doesn t turn at all. A rod connects the actuator to the latch and another rod connects the latch to the knob that sticks up out of the top of the door.

However this happens only sporadically. You need to remove the trim from inside the car in order to manually open it. In some cars the door lock actuator is positioned below the latch. After taking off the door panel to change my speakers and check out the problem i noticed the little metal rod that actually unlocks the door lock is not connected to the round nut where the key goes in.

Sometimes everything works fine. And despite having this problem with the driver s door the problem has not manifested itself with the three other door locks. Also the nut doesn t even turn with the key. Car door lock actuators are designed to lock and unlock a door without the effort of pulling on a cable and rod.

I would also replace all fuses that control the locks. If the fob appears to be working but the doors are not unlocking you need to check this.
