Oil Temp Sensor In Oil Pan

The pan is the prefered spot for oil temperature because it gives you the average temperature of the oil.

Before cranking on it the sensor at the pan is a low oil sensor. In other words you can completely unscrew the factory oil temp probe and no oil will leak out. If you can put the temp sensor in the oil pan. It will typically be mounted in either the engine block or in the cylinder head.
